En el contexto de una reunión de evaluación de la situación y perspectivas de la economía mexicana que sostuvo recientemente el presidente de la República, Enrique Peña Nieto, con el secretario de Hacienda y Crédito Público, José Antonio Meade Kuribreña, y con el gobernador de Banco de México, Agustín Guillermo Carstens Carstens, este último acordó solicitar al Banco de Pagos Internacionales (BIS por sus siglas en inglés) postergar por dos meses su incorporación al cargo de gerente general de esa Institución, a fin de permanecer cinco meses más de los originalmente previstos en su puesto actual en el Instituto Central. Dicha solicitud fue aceptada.
El gobernador del Banco de México agradece al Consejo Directivo del BIS su apoyo para postergar por dos meses su incorporación como gerente general.
Igualmente, agradece a Jaime Caruana, actual gerente general del BIS, su apoyo y amable disposición para permanecer en ese cargo hasta el último día de noviembre de 2017.
De esta forma, y aprobada la solicitud personal que el gobernador del Banco de México hizo al Consejo Directivo del BIS, Carstens iniciará su encargo como gerente general del BIS el primero de diciembre de este año.
