Ciudad de México, 16 de febrero de 2017– El titular de la Procuraduría General de la República (PGR), Raúl Cervantes Andrade, viajó a Brasil junto con un grupo de servidores públicos de la institución, a fin de sostener reuniones de trabajo con autoridades de esa nación sobre presuntos actos de corrupción en los que habrían incurrido las empresas brasileñas Odebrecht y su afiliada Braskem en al menos 15 países, entre ellos México.
La investigación sobre actos de corrupción de las empresas Odebrecht y Braskem es uno de los mayores escándalos en el ámbito empresarial de América Latina que ha involucrado a altos funcionarios de las administraciones gubernamentales de los expresidentes brasileños Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva y Dilma Rousseff y que tiene en la cárcel, con una condena de 19 años por corrupción, al empresario Marcelo Odebrecht, cuya empresa que lleva su apellido fue la mayor contratista de Brasil durante los últimos años.
De acuerdo con resultados públicos de la investigación sobre este caso, entre 2001 y 2016, Odebrecht habría pagado cerca de 788 millones de dólares en sobornos a funcionarios y políticos para quedarse con más de 100 proyectos en 15 países, principalmente latinoamericanos, incluyendo México.
Las investigaciones han involucrado a funcionarios de la paraestatal brasileña Petróleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) y de Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex). De acuerdo con el expediente de la investigación en curso Odebrecht habría pagado más de 10 millones de dólares a funcionarios mexicanos de la pasada y de la actual administración gubernamental a cambio de contratos multimillonarios.
La PGR informó esta mañana que el procurador Cervantes Andrade viaja a Brasilia, donde tendrán lugar los encuentros de trabajo, en atención a la convocatoria realizada a diversos países por el procurador general brasileño, acción que se realiza en el marco de los acuerdos de asistencia jurídica internacional de la que son parte ambos países.
La PGR señala que lleva a cabo este tipo de acciones de cooperación internacional, “en cumplimiento a su compromiso en el combate a la corrupción”.
