Ciudad de México, 25 de enero de 2015.- Al fijar la posición de su gobierno frente a las órdenes ejecutivas firmadas por el Presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, en materia migratoria y para la construcción de un muro en la frontera con México, el presidente Enrique Peña Nieto enfatizó: “Lamento y repruebo la decisión de Estados Unidos, de continuar la construcción de un muro que, desde hace años, lejos de unirnos, nos divide”.
Agregó en un mensaje a la nación que, en respuesta a las medidas instruidas por Trump, ordenó a la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores reforzar las medidas de protección a nuestros connacionales, de tal modo que los 50 consulados mexicanos en Estados Unidos, “se convertirán en auténticas defensorías de los derechos de los migrantes”.
Dijo que las comunidades mexicanas en Estados Unidos “no están solas”, ya que su gobierno les brindará la asesoría legal y protección. “Donde haya un migrante mexicano en riesgo que requiera nuestro respaldo, ahí debemos estar; ahí debe estar su país”.
En ese tenor, convocó a legisladores y organizaciones de la sociedad civil, a sumar esfuerzos para respaldar y apoyar a las comunidades mexicanas avecindadas en territorio estadounidense.
Al remarcar su rechazo a la construcción del muro fronterizo, el mandatario señalo que “México no cree en los muros” y, como recordó haberlo reiterado una y otra vez, “México no pagará ningún muro”.
Luego de señalar que la firma de las órdenes ejecutivas de Donald Trump tuvo lugar cuando una delegación mexicana se encontraba en Washington lista para negociar las nuevas reglas bilaterales en materia de cooperación, comercio, inversión, seguridad y migración en la región de Norteamérica, subrayó que dicha “negociación es muy importante para la fortaleza, certidumbre y futuro de nuestra economía y de nuestra sociedad”.
Enrique Peña Nieto remarcó que, como Presidente de la República, asume “plenamente la responsabilidad de defender y cuidar los intereses de México y los mexicanos”, así como el deber de “encarar los problemas y enfrentar los desafíos”.
Adelantó que, con base en el reporte final de los funcionarios mexicanos que en este momento se encuentran en Washington, y previa consulta con la representación de la Cámara de Senadores y de la Conferencia Nacional de Gobernadores, habrá de tomar decisiones sobre los siguientes pasos a seguir con respecto a la relación bilateral.
Finalmente, expresó que “México ofrece y exige respeto, como la Nación plenamente soberana que somos”, al tiempo de que “refrenda su amistad con el pueblo de los Estados Unidos y su voluntad para llegar a acuerdos con su gobierno; acuerdos que sean en favor de México y los mexicanos”.
