El arduo trabajo y reto del café veracruzano

Xalapa, Ver., 30 de enero de 2017.- Cuando toma un sorbo de café degustando el sabor y olor  que junto con el calor permiten quitar el frío de la tarde o borrar el insomnio de la  noche anterior ¿ha pensado en el trabajo de miles de personas que cortan ese producto en este temporada de invierno?

Cada  año en la ruta del café que inicia en el Pueblo Mágico de Coatepec y concluye en la Pluviosilla, Orizaba se recolecta el 48 por ciento de la producción nacional.

Cifras del Consejo Nacional de Evaluación de la Política de Desarrollo Social (CONEVAL) estiman que la población en extrema pobreza se  encuentra en los municipios productores de café.

La respuesta del propio CONEVAL es que la zona de siembra debe ser superior a mil metros sobre el nivel del mar, es ahí donde miles de personas se encuentran marginadas en servicios básicos, educación, crecimiento económico y salud.

Es en estas  zonas trabajan los jornaleros bajo el frío de la montaña  con un sueldo que ni para  comer alcanza.

Doña Eva llega al corte de café a las ocho de la mañana y al igual que los varones y niños que se dedican a la misma tarea llevan en su mochila un bastimento compuesto de  café, tortillas, huevo revuelto y frijoles. Una vez instalados en las plantaciones el pago por kilo de semilla colectada en pulpa es de tres pesos.

Mientras que cadenas extranjeras compiten  deslealmente con un producto de baja calidad traído de Costa Rica y con altos precios, el café mexicano se exporta, pero son sólo los grandes inversionistas quienes lograron que el café  veracruzano tenga denominación de origen y se pague a precio de oro.

El café de Veracruz tuvo este año un repunte fuerte en cuanto al precio, sin embargo las altas y bajas del valor del aromático, la inflación y los problemas financieros son acontecimientos que impactan eventualmente a los jornaleros.
