Washington, 20 Ene (Notimex).- El número de detenidos durante las protestas contra el presidente Donald Trump en Washington aumentó esta noche a 217, luego de enfrentamientos con la policía y actos de vandalismo, informó la policía local.
Además, al menos seis oficiales de policía resultaron heridos y dos de ellos fueron trasladados a un hospital de la capital estadunidense, según un nuevo balance difundido por la cadena CNN.
En varios incidentes la policía utilizó gases lacrimógenos para dispersar a los manifestantes, varios de ellos armados con palos y objetos de metal, aunque en la mayoría de los casos las protestas se desarrollaron de manera pacífica.
La policía informó que un grupo de inconformes dañó vehículos y varios negocios en el centro de la ciudad, así como dos patrullas en las que dos policías resultaron con heridas leves.
Los rastros de los desmanes fueron evidentes en varios establecimientos, cuyos aparadores de cristal fueron quebrados a golpes. Una limusina permanecía en una calle con todos sus vidrios rotos por los vándalos y daños en su interior.
En otro incidente, un grupo denominado “Motociclistas por Trump” trató de romper una de estas manifestaciones por su cuenta, pero fue repelido a pedradas. Una persona resultó herida en el rostro.
Los brotes de violencia fueron esporádicos y sucedieron afuera de la amplia zona acordonada con altas vallas metálicas y barreras de concreto, y que incluyó la ruta que el presidente Trump recorrió tras su juramentación desde el Capitolio hasta la Casa Blanca.
En algunos casos los manifestantes prendieron fuego a contenedores de basura, en un inútil esfuerzo por impedir el paso de los policías con equipo antimotines, quienes formaron vallas para impedir que avanzaran.
